Game Rules
Overhand Our rules are the same as National league baseball rules, with the following exceptions:
1) Bases are 50 feet from back of home plate to back side of first base.
2) Pitching rubber is 40 feet from the back corner of home plate.
3) Fence is 95 feet down LF and RF line, coming to a point in CF, approximately 140 feet away.
4) Games are 4 innings, 2 outs per half inning. Slaughter rule is 15 after 2 innings.
5) No playing off base or stealing. You may not leave until the ball is hit. The runner will not be called out, however, unless the batter hits a fair ball.
6) No chopping, though you may swing down on the ball to a point. The distance the ball travels and its speed can also be a determining factor in whether a swing is a chop. In general, a chop goes DOWN into the ground. A chop is a FOUL BALL.
7) Balls and strikes are not called. Swinging strikes and fouls are, however. You may strike out swinging. If you hit three foul balls AFTER you have two strikes, you are out. Ball is dead. However, if the fielder CATCHES the third foul after two strikes, the ball is live and the runners may advace. A foul tip on the third strike is not an out unless it goes over the batters head.
8) No steel cleats. MCS are allowed.
9) If you are hit by a fair ball in fair territory before it has passed a fielder, you are out and the ball is dead. The batter gets first base. This is whether you are on the base or not. The pitcher is not considered a fielder unless he has a legitimate chance to routinely field the ball, or he touches it. The ball is NOT dead if it hits an official.
10) Dead ball lines are just like fences. If you catch a ball in play and carry it out of play, runners advance by rule.
11) Any ball that is thrown or knocked out of play is two bases from the point the runners were when the ball was THROWN. A runner who is one step from second when the ball is thrown is considered to be on FIRST. You must reach the bag before the ball is thrown to get credit for the base.
12) Five players on roster. Four play at a time. The fifth player may enter and starter may re-enter once. However, the sub may only sub for one player. If the sub enters for one player, and a different player is injured, you can play with three with no penalty. However, if a player other than the substitute is ejected, you have to play with 3 and take an out in their at bat.
13) You may start with less than four. You may start with three and not have a catcher.
14) Only Official Wiffle bats from the current generation and softball size balls may be used. The bat may have nothing on it that adds weight. Stickum is allowed, but not paint, tape, etc.
15) No walks or intentional walks.
16) No infield fly rule.
17) Pitches must have at least a small arc on them. They should go up and come down, not vice versa. A relatively level pitch is acceptable if it is slow. Overhand or underhand pitching is acceptable.
